Description: On October 24, 2011, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) published a proposed rule, "Reform of Hospital and Critical Access Hospital Conditions of Participation." The proposed rule would increase the ability of healthcare professionals to devote resources to improving patient care, by eliminating or reducing requirements that impede quality patient care or that divert resources away from providing the delivery of quality patient care.

The Road to Better Care

CMS Quality Agenda is focused on driving improvements in process and outcomes for patients.  Each of the elements of the national improvement strategy will be discussed including resources to help facilities provide better care.  Value Based Purchasing will also be discussed including measures for FY 2013 and FY 2014.  Although CAHs are exempt from Value Based Purchasing currently -- CMS is considering implementing Value Based Purchasing for Medicaid patients.  And, other payors are sure to follow!
